What drives air quality in Negeri Sembilan
Why this state’s readings move the way they do.
Negeri Sembilan runs from the Klang Valley’s southern edge down to the coast at Port Dickson, and its air reflects both. The Seremban–Nilai corridor shares traffic and industry with greater KL, while the coastal strip is exposed to whatever comes across the Strait of Malacca.
Main local sources
- Spillover traffic and industry from the southern Klang Valley around Nilai and Seremban
- Coastal industrial activity near Port Dickson
- Transboundary haze reaching the Strait of Malacca coastline
- Plantation and land-clearing fires inland during dry spells
How the year runs here
The state follows the west coast pattern: most exposed during the June–September southwest monsoon, cleanest after sustained rain. Its northern districts often track the Klang Valley closely.
Readings on this page cover Seremban, Port Dickson, Nilai, Bahau and Kuala Pilah, to the extent that stations in those areas are reporting. Each figure is named with the station it came from, so you can judge how close it is to you.
Jerebu and haze in Negeri Sembilan
When the air here crosses into unhealthy territory, we write it up.
We publish a dated bulletin for every day on which any Malaysian state reaches AQI 101 or above — the point at which health advice starts naming who should stay indoors. The bulletins are built from the same hourly archive as the charts above, so they record what the stations actually read rather than restating a headline.
Negeri Sembilan has had 10 such days in the last 13.

Asked about this state specifically.
Does Negeri Sembilan’s air quality track Kuala Lumpur’s?
The northern districts often do, because Nilai and Seremban sit at the edge of the same Klang Valley airshed and share its traffic. The coastal and inland districts are a different matter and can read quite separately on the same day.
Why is Port Dickson sometimes higher than Seremban?
Port Dickson is on the Strait of Malacca, so it is exposed to transboundary smoke earlier and more directly, and there is coastal industry nearby. Seremban is inland and more often reflects local traffic. The figure on this page is the higher of whichever stations are reporting.
